Luke 5:27-39
Levi :
• was a tax collector
• was sitting in his tax booth
• left everything to follow Jesus
• made a great feast
• dined with disciples and fellow tax collectors
Pharisees :
• grumbled
• questioned
• judged
• attempted to create divisions among the people (disciples of John, disciples of Pharisees, disciples of Jesus)
When Jesus called Levi to follow him – he called him to a new life. There is this reference to new garments, new wine, fresh wineskins.
We are not being cleaned up – we are being completely changed. Not better – brand new.
We don’t have to be who we used to be – and that is good news.
