Psalm 109: When You Don’t Know How to Respond

Psalm 109

David was experiencing:

• enemies lying about him
• words of hate
• unwarranted attacks
• accusations
• people who returned him evil for good

These trials caused David to feel:

• poor / helpless
• needy
• heartbroken
• rejected
• weak
• like an object of scorn

How do we respond when we find ourselves in this kind of situation? Get angry? Bitter? Seek revenge? Attempt to rally our troops and return the favor? Feel sorry for ourselves?

David’s response was:

• prayer (v 4)
• gratitude (v 30)
• praise (v 30)
• trust (v 31)

O our God, will you not execute judgment on them? For we are powerless against this great horde that is coming against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” 2 Chronicles 20:12
