Blessed are those whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. Psalm 84:5
This is my verse for 2021. I’ve already chosen it.
Blessed {happy, fortunate} are those whose hearts are set {committed, determined} on pilgrimage {an especially long journey to a sacred space as an act of devotion.}
Does anyone else feel like the journey is especially long? Does it sometimes seem unbearably so? I’m looking at you, #2020.
Lord, help me be set on and committed to what Eugene Peterson called “a long obedience in the same direction.”
Sometimes, my steps are steady and sure. Maybe I skip with a lightness of spirit.
Other days, it’s painfully slow as I labor to put one foot in front of the other. Perhaps I pause to catch my breath.
Yet, always and forever, moving in the same direction. Knowing that a cloud of witnesses cheer me on (Hebrews 12:1.)
