Psalm 64
Our words are never neutral. They harm or they heal (Proverbs 12:18.) They build up or they tear down. They encourage or discourage. Words are powerful.
π The wicked use their words like weapons – to hurt and harm and humiliate (vs 3-4.)
π God uses His Word to judge and bring down the wicked and to defend and protect the righteous (vs 7-8.) {See also 2 Timothy 3:16-17.}
π The righteous use their words to tell of what God has done and to praise Him (vs 9-10.)
The enemy was attacking David verbally. The words were like swords and arrows – in other words, they hurt. But David did not hurl hateful words in return. He took his complaint to God (vs 1) and God handled the situation.
It is often difficult – but God often calls us to stand down and let him handle it.
Hereβs what we can know when we are experiencing an undeserved (vs 4) attack:
- God can hear us (vs 1.)
- God can hide us (vs 2.)
- God can help us (vs 7.)
