Something in us craves a simple, uncomplicated, neat, and tidy existence. What today’s proverb tells us, though, is that with work comes a little mess (vs 4.) Where there are no oxen, the manger is clean. But, when the manger is clean, no work is being done.
We also see that the work is worth it because there is profit in our productivity (vs 23.) Talking and planning without working is pointless.
Ministry is messy. Loving people can be complicated. Serving the Lord will not always result in a neat and tidy life. Talking and planning have their places but, until we get our hands dirty, nothing changes.
