James 2:1-13 True Wealth

James 2:1-13

Apparently, it’s been a misunderstanding since the beginning. What does it mean to be rich?

Speaking to 1st century Christians, James told them to not judge someone or treat them differently based on appearances. True wealth, he said, was to be rich in faith and heirs of God’s kingdom.

Outward beauty and finery can hide the poorest soul. I am reminded of a saying of a former boss of mine who was from Texas (and one of the godliest men I’ve ever met – Dr. Jimmy Draper.)

“Big hat, no cattle.”

The appearance of wealth but, in reality, destitute. That is the essence of worldly riches without faith in Christ.

May we strive to be rich in the things that matter and have eternal rewards.
