Exodus 37: Clear Instructions

Exodus 37

Do you know what occurred to me as I read this chapter? The time and energy the Lord spent telling the people exactly what was expected of them.

“This is what material to use.”

“These are the measurements.”

“This is the clothing you wear.”

The Lord gave very clear directions. He told them how to best honor him so that they could enjoy the blessings he longed to give them. He wasn’t trying to trick them or trip them up.

It’s the same all through the Old Testament.

He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8

It’s the same in the New Testament.

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:30-31

Sometimes, we make it confusing and complicated by majoring in the minors, refusing to repent, and failing to follow the simplest of commands. We want to spend our time attempting to know the unknowable while ignoring the needs of our neighbor.

God wants us to live within his will and according to his Word. He has gone to great lengths to give us all the guidance we need. Let’s just obey him.
