Your First Love

I’m probably the only one, but sometimes I do good things…with a bad attitude.

It gets worse.

Sometimes, I am arrogant enough to think God should be okay with that…maybe even be pleased.

Okay, God.  Did you see that?  I didn’t want to do it…I’m tired…I’m drowning in my own stuff right now…but I did that good deed.  I listened to that other person’s problem.  I showed excitement for someone else’s good news…

But, on the inside, I’m complaining.  I’m grumbling.  I’m envious.

But, at least I tried…right?  God can’t hold a little bit of a bad attitude against me.  I mean…He sees what I’m going through.

I know you are enduring patiently and bearing up for my name’s sake, and you have not grown weary.  – Revelation 2: 3 ESV

This brought me comfort when I read it.  He sees me.  He knows what I’m going through.  He understands why I sometimes have a bad attitude…okay, it doesn’t really say that.  In fact, I kind of cringed when I read the next verse.

But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first. – Revelation 2:4 ESV

Love is a big deal to God.

You shall love the Lord your God…

Let Love be genuine…

Love is patient and kind…

But the greatest of these is love…

For the love of Christ controls us…

Let brotherly love continue…

You shall love your neighbor as yourself…

On and on it goes…time and time again God emphasizes how he desires for us to love Him and others.  Our actions should be an overflow of the love we have inside.

But I have this against you…I read those words knowing that He was speaking to me…that you, too often, act out of obligation instead of love.

  1. What a simply pretty blog and what a spiritual soul you are. I’m with you when it comes to being obediant or serving with murmuring lips. Sometimes I just look to heaven and say, “Don’t even write this one down–I know I’m getting no blessings.” Thanks for stopping by by kooky blog:)

  2. And this is why I subscribe to your blog and start my day with you and a few others. You’re not alone. I guess we’ve all made this mistake from time to time. But here’s the beauty in all of this…He loves us so much that He allows is to hear His voice and correction, He provides enough grace to cover us AND He invites us to start again.

You are a blessing! Thank you for sharing your heart the way you do. Always so encouraging.

  3. Bad attitude? Sure – that’s me
Bitterness and Resentment – sure that’s me
WHEN I am not abiding in His Word
I was with you through the whole writing and I thought you were writing about me (ha)
We all fall prey but God gives us an attitude adjustment and off we go again facing things in love again
    God Bless

    • Thank you so much for telling me you can relate! Ha! He does know our hearts, doesn’t He? He sees through the fake smiles and right to our heart. Thanks for stopping by today!
