Matthew 4:1-11

Matthew 4:1-11

πŸ‘‰ Jesus:

  • led by the Spirit
  • tempted by the devil
  • fasted 40 days and 40 nights
  • hungry

Jesus was physically hungry, but he was spiritually filled. He had been fasting – spending his time in intense prayer – for 40 days and nights. The enemy thought he had caught him at his weakest but the joke was on him.

We are at our strongest when we are led by the Spirit and filled with the Word!

πŸ‘‰ β€œIf you are the Son of God…”

Over and over, the enemy tried to challenge the deity of Jesus. He wanted Jesus to sin. Perhaps he wanted him to respond with pride, anger, etc. Maybe he wanted Jesus to respond with, β€œI’ll show you who I am!”

The enemy wants us to lose our cool. To sin with our words. To have a haughty spirit.

Jesus set the example when he responded with calmness and humility and the Word.

πŸ‘‰ β€œFall down and worship me.”

The enemy desperately wants to be worshiped. He wanted it from Jesus and he wants it from us. The devil demands it but God deserves it.

β€œYou shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.”

πŸ‘‰ Question of the Day:

When the enemy taunts and pokes – do we respond with pride and anger or calmness and truth?

Who am I giving my worship to – through my time, talents, words, energy, etc.?
