1 John 4:1-21
John’s goal for his readers was complete joy (1 John 1:4).
And here, nearing the end of the letter, he continued to teach on the command to love one another.
👉 Could it be that our joy – our complete joy – is tied up in our willingness to love one another?
John taught that being born of God and knowing him would naturally result in a person leading a life of love (v 7). And we can lead a life of love because of God’s love for us (v 10).
👉 God’s love for us:
• is revealed in Jesus (v 9-10)
• casts out fear (v 18)
• enables us to love one another (v 19)
• demands that we love one another (v 21)
Joy is found obedience. And the command from the beginning has been to love one another.
“And this command we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother” (v 21).
What does it look like?
It looks like Jesus.
