Genesis 38-39
In chapter 38 – drama.
Judah had three sons: Er, Onan, and Shelah.
Er married Tamar. But, alas, Er was evil and the Lord struck him dead (v 7).
So, as was the custom, Tamar was given to the second brother – Onan (v 8).
Onan was also wicked and struck dead by the Lord (v 10).
Judah wanted to hold on to his remaining son for awhile so he asked Tamar to hold off on marrying Shelah until he was older (v 11).
But Tamar discovered that Judah never intended to give her to his third son (v 14). She then tricked Judah into sleeping with her and became pregnant with twins (v 25-30).

In chapter 39, our attention is turned back to Joseph.
When Joseph was sold to Potiphar – the Lord was with him (v 2).
When Joseph was wrongly accused and thrown into prison – the Lord was with him (v 12).
Tragedy and trials are not indicators that the Lord has abandoned us. In fact, in those moments, he is closer than ever before. Pit, palace, or prison – God never left Joseph’s side.
Whatever we are going through today – the Lord is with us. He is very much aware of where we are and what we are experiencing. He is already at work.
Today is a new opportunity to choose worship over worry. Prayer over panic. Faith over fear. Christ over chaos. Word over world. Trust over turmoil.
The choice is ours.
