Genesis 16 Two Mistakes Made While Waiting

Genesis 16

God promised big things to Abram and Abram believed those things. But, then, something happened that caused some tension for Abram and Sarai – they had to wait.

{Someone wants to testify.}

Eleven years had passed and still no beginning to the offspring too numerous to count which God had promised to them.

Waiting. Waiting. Waiting.

And Sarai said to Abram, “Behold now, the Lord has prevented me from bearing children. Go in to my servant; it may be that I shall obtain children by her.” And Abram listened to the voice of Sarai.” (v 2)

TWO MISTAKES MADE IN THE WAITING

  1. “It may be…” – Not going to the Lord with concerns, questions, reassurance.

Sarai was speculating. Guessing. Adding to God’s Word. Trying to make things happen on her own. Not asking the Lord questions like Abram did in chapter 15.

  1. “Abram listened to the voice of Sarai…” – Listening to other voices and not the Lord’s voice.

The Lord had spoken clearly to Abram. But, as the years went by, he began to listen to Sarai’s voice.

👉 In seasons of waiting, we need continuous dialogue with the Lord. Asking. Seeking. Knocking. Listening. There is a way to wait well.
