Isaiah 3:1-4:1
Where do we find our security? In what do we take pride?
Isaiah was speaking to a people who had placed all of their pride and security in:
• their ability to provide for themselves (v 1)
• their impressive military, wise judicial system, and the leadership of their elders (v 2-3)
• their external beauty and expensive adornments (v 16)
The problem being that they had forgotten the source of all of those good things.
👉 Every good and perfect gift is from above… James 1:17
They had a really tight grip on the things of the world. But a tight grip won’t stop the taking away.
The Lord is taking away… v 1
In that day the Lord will take away… v 18
Do not hear me say that everything taken from us is a punishment – do. not.
But – in this scenario – where God’s people had forgotten the source of their provision and blessings – well, our God will have no other gods before Him.
Help us, Lord, to remember the source of every good thing that comes our way. And may we cling tightly only to You.
