Proverbs 6:20-35 Grace That is Greater

Proverbs 6:20-35

I can hear the intensity as a father warns his son about the dangers of sexual sin. He points him to the way of wisdom in order to avoid the harsh consequences of poor choices.

Wisdom:

• leads you (v 22)
• watches over you (v 22)
• talks to you (v 22)
• gives light (v 23)
• is the way of life (v 23)
• preserves you (v 24)

The consequences of sexual sin however:

• are painful (v 28)
• are unavoidable (v 29)
• are costly (v 31)
• can destroy (v 32)
• bring wounds, dishonor, disgrace (v 33)
• bring broken relationships (v 34-35)

This is all true. If you’ve been there – you know it. BUT – it doesn’t have to be the end of the story.

Ask David.

Ask the woman at the well.

Ask the sinful woman.

Ask the woman caught in the act of adultery.

Ask the prodigal son.

Ask Solomon.

Ask them about the grace that is greater than sin. Ask them about the forgiveness that brings freedom. Ask them about the mercy that moves us from the pit to His presence.

Yes – there are earthly consequences for sin. Some that never go away. But, for those in Christ, there is no longer condemnation.
