Colossians 1:15-23
The previous section ended with Paul’s reference to “the beloved Son.” In this portion, we get this in depth description of Christ.
👉 {Hebrews 1:3-4 is great to read along with this portion.}
Christ:
• is the image of the invisible God (v 15)
• is the firstborn of all creation (v 15)
• all things were created through him and for him (v 16)
• is before all things (v 17)
• holds all things together (v 17)
• is the head of the church – remember this for chapter 2 😉 (v 18)
• firstborn from the dead – resurrection (v 18)
• preeminent – to be first (v 18)
• is filled with the fullness of God (v 19)
• reconciles all things to himself (v 20)
• offers us peace with God through his blood (v 20)
Paul made it clear that – before Christ – we were alienated from God – filled with hostile attitudes and evil actions (v 21).
But…
With Christ – we become holy, blameless, and above reproach (v 22) – because we are reconciled to God through his Son.
👉 What stood out to you from this portion? Is there a characteristic of Christ that you had not considered before or struck you in a new way today?
You are loved.
