Sunday Thoughts: An Answer to Anxiety

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6

I am prone to anxiety. I am high strung. I have zero chill. I live in a constant swirl of whys and what ifs.

God has told me in his word, however, that I don’t have to live this way. I need not be anxious about “anything.” Not the big things. Not the little things. Not other people’s things.

How is this possible?

By living a life marked by prayer and gratitude. By letting God handle the things that only he can handle. By looking for the good in every situation and praising him for it.

Perhaps you would say, “That’s just a temporary fix.” My answer would be, “Only if you do it temporarily.”

Never stop praying. 1 Thessalonians 5:17

I can’t pick and choose which worries to hold onto – I will either worry about all the things or none of the things. I’m choosing none – but I must make that choice multiple times a day.

When I worry – I am saying to myself, “What if God gets this wrong?” When I am trusting – I am saying to myself, “God is good and all his ways are good.”

Your Heavenly Father loves and adores you and is infinitely capable of caring for you.
