A Proverb a Day (20/31)

“The sluggard does not plow in the autumn; he will seek at harvest and have nothing.” Proverbs 20:4

Laziness always leads to loss. In today’s proverb, we read about someone who did zero work but still expected to enjoy the harvest.

My first thought was regarding people who practice zero spiritual disciplines but still expect to enjoy the fruit of godly living. They don’t pray; they present a wish list. They don’t worship, they warm a pew.

They don’t love their neighbors. They don’t sacrifice anything. They exhibit no patience, kindness, or gentleness towards others. In other words, they do not obey the commands found in Scripture.

Then, they come seeking for a harvest and find nothing. There is no joy or peace in their lives. They feel like their prayers are not being heard.

Peter warned us that our attitudes and actions affect our prayers.

“Be self-controlled (actions) and sober-minded (attitude) for the sake of your PRAYERS.” 1 Peter 4:7

I fear there will be many who come seeking at harvest time and find nothing. Let us be about our Father’s business and be found working when He returns.
