We talked a little in Bible study last night about how, in the midst of suffering or trials, the temptation is to turn completely inward. To focus on our own issues and tune the world out. And, wouldn’t you know, today’s proverb has a little something to say about that.
“Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire; he breaks out against all sound judgement.” Proverbs 18:1
When we, for whatever reason, isolate ourselves, it’s selfish (seeks his own desire) and it’s foolish (against sound judgement.)
“Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful creator while doing good.” 1 Peter 4:19
What we are called to do (instead of focusing on or feeling sorry for ourselves) is to trust the Lord and continue doing good. In other words, reach out. Focus on others. Do the next thing. And trust God to work on your behalf in your situation.
