Women and Community

20120920-011548.jpgI’m not a woman who makes friends easily. You won’t catch me at the MOPS meeting on Monday night. I’m never early to Bible study, or any sort of meeting, because the thought of small talk terrifies me. I’m the lady that is constantly staring at her phone as if an important text may come at any moment. It isn’t that I’m rude – just hiding. I am the one who bought the lie that, because I am an introvert, I’m okay being alone.

I am over at Emily’s place today talking about women and our need for community. I would love it if you would join me!

  1. Thank you for sharing what was on your heart and echoes in mine! (And many other women’s) I’m so glad Emily shared this today on her page!
Reading this was just the kick-in-the-butt I needed and I just emailed church (the one my family has been meaning to commit to attending every week instead of a few times a year) to request info on finding a women’s bible study group! I.need.women.companionship.

    God bless!

    • Good for you – stepping out and putting yourself out there! A woman’s Bible study is such a great place to start. One thing I have found helpful is realizing that other women are feeling the same way I am. Sometimes, we think everyone else is more confident and that is just not so. Thank you so much for reading and commenting!

  2. I too struggle immensely with community. Not that I don’t long for it, but that I haven’t found that sweet spot, so to speak. I have always attended the same church, as in all 34 years of my life. Except, as an adult I have been sporadic to say the least with my attendance. I just do not feel at home there which seems odd to me since it is where I grew up. The majority of the people there are much older and I just have never felt like I fit in. I also have felt unworthy for most of my life. I LONG for a church and a community, not only for me, but for my entire family to be a part of. I pray specifically for a community of women to share life with.

    • I’ll be praying along with you, Amber – that God would open your eyes to the potential relationships around you. I am in the opposite situation, I guess, in that we recently moved to a new city and I’m in a brand new church. I grew up in a church that had an older demographic so I understand that dilemma. One thing I would suggest is looking at the women’s Bible study groups in other churches in your area. There is nothing wrong with going to a Tuesday morning study or whatever at another church. It’s not easy, girl. I really do understand. You can always email me if you ever just want to chat or if you have something I can pray with you about. 🙂 servantslife(at)gmail(dot)come.

      • Stacy, thank you so much for the guidance and prayers! I really appreciate all you do on a daily basis for women!
