You’re not perfect.
You have probably said things that you wish you had not said. You have probably done things that you wish you had not done. You probably have forgotten some things that you should have remembered. Maybe, you remember some things that you wish you could forget.
You’re not perfect and, some days, you are very much aware of your imperfection. Some days, the enemy is quick to point out your every flaw and you are quick to believe every word of it.
Can I remind you about a beautiful truth? There is a God of grace. He looks upon you and says, I know you. I know you. And I choose to love you. Let your heart just take that in for a minute. Your imperfection makes His love all the more amazing. That an awesome and holy God would see you, with all your flaws and failures, and choose to love you anyway…
It’s like when kids are on a playground picking teams for some game. No one ever wants to be the last one left because then you are on someone’s team by default. Someone had to have you. But, when there are several people standing there and someone calls your name and says…I choose you…that is an amazing feeling. To be chosen.
To put it in today’s terms, it’s like being in a group of ten women and knowing there are only nine roses. Are you feeling me, now? Someone, despite their best efforts and dazzling dress, is not going to get picked. They are going to leave feeling like less than enough. Someone’s name is not going to be called.
…I have called you by name, you are mine. – Isaiah 43:1 ESV
You do not belong to God by default. In the midst of all He created, He sees you. He knows what you are capable of, both good and bad. He knows your flaws but, more importantly, He knows your heart.
So, on those days when you feel less than enough. When you feel like no one wants you on their team.
Close your eyes. Take a deep breath. God chooses you. He whispers to your weary heart, “Will you accept this rose?”
