We want more things. We want bigger and better. We want comfort and ease. We are a people prone to want.
From vacation homes to beautiful bodies. Everything this world parades in front of us is intended to instill in us a want for something other than Him.
But until Jesus Christ is all we want – we will never be satisfied. We will never know what it means to be filled.
What if Christ was all we wanted? What if we turned our back on the offerings of this world and said, like Paul…
But as for me, I will never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. – Galatians 6:14 HCSB
We were created to want. Not the things of this world, though. Our creator created us to want Him and Him only.
It is the secret signature of each soul, the incommunicable and unappeasable want, the thing we desired before we met our wives or made our friends or chose our work, and which we shall still desire on our deathbeds, when the mind no longer knows wife or friend or work. – The Sacred Romance, John Eldredge
So, we are designed with this want deep in our soul. We spend our lives trying to satisfy it. We pour our time, money and energy into filling the empty parts of ourselves with something – anything.
What is the secret to true satisfaction?
We must want the One who wants us back.
I have asked one thing from the Lord; it is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, gazing on the beauty of the Lord and seeking Him in His temple. – Psalm 27:4
