The feelings come quietly. They sneak in when you are unaware and, before you realize it, you are overtaken.
Anxiety. Inadequacy. Insecurity. They can weigh quite heavy on a person’s heart. And they interfere with a person’s calling.
These negative burdens like to make themselves known and stand in the way of obedience to God. Oh, yes. If you are trying to accomplish something for Him you can be sure they will rise up. They will puff themselves up until they seem larger than life.
You don’t know enough to do that.
You aren’t brave enough to go there.
Someone else would be better suited for that task.
On and on the whispers slip into your ears and make their way into your heart. How do you stop the lies?
For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. – 1 Corinthians 2:2
- It’s a decision you make. For I decided, Paul says. You have to choose to believe what God says about you and not what the world says.
- It’s all about Christ. There is an old joke that the answer in Sunday School is always “Jesus.” There is actually a lot of truth in that. Paul was not an eloquent speaker. He did not know all of the theological terms or theories. And, if he got caught up in what he did not know, he would have missed out on being used mightily by God. Christ…that was all he needed to know.
Very, very true!
