God-Sized Assignments

God has a way of asking His people to do God-sized things. This has been a struggle for man from the very beginning. If anyone ever tried to escape an assignment from God, it was Moses. The task at hand was intimidating to say the least.

Come, I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt. – Exodus 3:10 ESV

Moses tried to get out of doing what God instructed him to do. And he used some of the same excuses the people of God still use today. In fact, all of his excuses can be summed up in two statements that people today still use to avoid God-given tasks.

  1. I am not worthy (Genesis 3:11.) This is a common one for those who think their past eliminates them from present usefulness. God, however, is quick to set Moses straight. A God-given task is never about us. It’s always about Him and He can use anyone.
  2. I am not able (Genesis 4:10.) Moses was very quick to list all of his faults. Here are all of the things that I can not do. Today, just as with Moses, God-sized tasks are about what God is able to do. Our weaknesses and inabilities may be the very reason God has chosen to use us for a particular task.

Has God placed a task before you that seems impossible? Does it require something of you that you believe you do not possess? If so, there are just two things to remember.

  • God is worthy.
  • God is able.
