Wide-open spaces

This is what my mind looks like on most days.

Okay, really, this is my morning commute.  But, as I drove in this morning, I thought about how the congestion is really representative of my mind.  It’s just full of stuff.  There is the stress of really needing to accomplish some things, but being delayed by other things.

I am constantly thinking of the next ten things on my to-do list and sometimes, I must admit, I get so overwhelmed that I do nothing at all.  Which, by the way, just adds to the stress and congestion.

So, as I was sitting trapped in a sea of people who just will not get out of my way still on the interstate, a verse popped into my head.

He brought me out to a wide-open place;
He rescued me because He delighted in me.
– Psalm 18:19 HCSB

He rescues me from the congestion of life and helps me focus.

When I’m alone with God – if I let Him – He removes everything that hinders intimacy with Him.  He brings me out into a wide-open place where it is just me and my God.

Today, that is just what I needed…a little space.  And, I’ll be honest, I’m at a point in my life where privacy is hard to come by.  So, I took my Bible and I hid in a bathroom stall at work.  But, you know what?  For me – it was a wide-open place.
