What does it take to be successful when God calls us to do the difficult? Let’s look at our text again.
I will be with you, just as I was with Moses. I will not leave you or forsake you. Be strong and courageous, for you will distribute the land I swore to their fathers to give them as an inheritance. Above all, be strong and very courageous to carefully observe the whole instruction My servant Moses commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right or the left, so that you will have success wherever you go. This book of instruction must not depart from your mouth; you are to recite it day and night, so that you may carefully observe everything written in it. For then you will prosper and succeed in whatever you do. Haven’t I commanded you: be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. –Joshua 1:5-9
Last week we talked about being strong and courageous.
In addition to that, we also need to be completely obedient. The Lord tells Joshua that he must observe all of the instructions that Moses had given.
Do not turn from it to the left or to the right…
Sometimes, we just think we know where God is going with this thing, don’t we? We get a tiny piece of the puzzle and we’re off and running. But, if we want to succeed, we have to do it God’s way. And, yes, sometimes that means doing it the difficult way…the uncomfortable way…the wilderness way.
So, if Monday morning seems a little daunting for you today, be obedient in what He has called you to right now. Don’t worry about what is down the road. Don’t hurry ahead in an attempt to speed things along. Just put one foot in front of the other and be completely obedient to what he has called you to do right now.
…so that you will have success wherever you go.
