Our Hope is in Him

But we had hoped that he was the one… — Luke 24:21

Two men were walking on the road from Jerusalem to the village of Emmaus.

Jesus has been crucified and buried.

Women have been telling crazy stories about angels and resurrection…but they didn’t believe it.

Their minds were overwhelmed and their hearts were heavy.  They are talking amongst themselves and discussing the recent events when Jesus drew near.  They did not know it was Him as He walked with them on the road.  They continued on with their conversation and even began to explain the circumstances to Jesus.

They ask him, Are you the only one who doesn’t know?

I think of times when I have had similar responses.  Do You not know what has been going on in my life these days?  How is it that you could not have heard?  Why did you not stop any of this from happening?

They, not yet knowing who they are speaking to, tell Him all about the crucifixion of this prophet named Jesus….and how they had hoped he was the one.

Can’t you just feel the heartbreak?  Sense the weariness?

Lord, I had hoped he was the one.  I had hoped it was the answer.  I had hoped it was finally time.  I had hoped for healing.

They had hoped he was the one.

And He was.  He is.  But we cannot stop hoping.  When what we see does not make sense, we cannot stop hoping.

We are told over and over and over again to put our hope in the Lord.  Not in what we can see.  Not in what others tell us to be true.  Not in what this world has to offer.  Our hope is in Him.

Because He. is. the. One.
