Like a Child…

My daughter prays for the contestants on American Idol.  Then…she cries herself to sleep when the girl with the pretty glittery make-up around her eyes gets voted off.

My daughter prays for the missionaries in Haiti because she worries that they have lost their homes and now may not be able to tell others about Jesus.

My daughter prays for her friend at church who went to China to bring home a baby brother.  She was worried because there are a lot of people in China who don’t like people who love Jesus.

My daughter prays for the characters in movies like The Fox and The Hound.  Even though she knows it ends well…that doesn’t make the middle not sad and I just want to pray for them.

My daughter prays…for me.

My Emily…she feels things deeply.  And I love that about her.  She cares about big things and she cares about small things.  She prays for spiritual things and she prays for mundane every day things.  She hurts when others hurt.  She cries for people that others may not even notice.  She prays for people long after others have forgotten.

My daughter makes me want to be better…

I assure you: Whoever does not welcome the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it. – Mark 10:15 HCSB

  1. Thanks for your comment on my blog today!

Love this post. My son, Nathan (3), has similar sensitivities. It warms my heart, especially since we prayed even before he was born that he would be sensitive to the needs of others.

  2. That is so sweet. I remember when we were watching one of those Bible story cartoons and my oldest said she wished Jesus could heal Katie (who has CP). Kids are crazy, but they really make us better people, dontcha think?
