Maternity Leave Goals

Seven weeks ago, I had these plans.  I was looking at eight weeks of maternity leave and I had a list of items that I intended to accomplish.

I was going to organize my kitchen…

That hasn’t exactly happened.

I also had big plans to clean out the hall closet so that we could actually…I don’t know…hang a coat in it or something.

Yeah…I haven’t gotten to that one yet…

Then, there is the goal of all goals…the one that I have set and accomplished many times only to have to set it again…the organization of the toy shelves in the playroom.

Or, as I like to call it, The Land of Misfit Toys.

Oh, and don’t even get me started on the scrapbooks that I was going to get caught up on and the one I was going to start for Sarah…Oh my.

So, I did none of these things.  I accomplished nothing…nothing, that is, that was on my oh-so-important list.

However…

I had many meals lovingly prepared by two sweet little girls.

I had the privilege of spending entire days in my pajamas watching Sesame Street and eating marshmallows.

I spent many moments kissing newborn piggies.

And I was home to see my girls have a great time playing in the snow.

So, here I am…ten days from returning to work…looking at a list of things that I did not accomplish.

And, I am more than okay with that because what I did accomplish…was so much better…and a lot more fun.

  1. You accomplished exactly what you needed to accomplish! So much of our “to do” list in life seems to be things that don’t really matter in the long run. Or at least that’s how my “to do” list is! Glad to see an update! Enjoy the rest of your maternity leave!

  2. I’ve been feeling bad because I haven’t worked on Josiah’s baby book or put pictures in photo albums or kept up with housework since Josiah was born, but I have been able to sit and hold my sweet, precious baby every day and take naps with him. I think that you did exactly what you were supposed to do on maternity leave. Spending time with your adorable 3 girls. 🙂 It makes me feel better knowing that I don’t have to have it all together as a new mom.

  3. As a mom whose kids are now in college… you definitely did the right thing! Cleaning closets can wait until your kids go to college. (Mine did. I still haven’t gotten to the photo books though.)

  4. Hey Stacy!

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m so happy for you! Loved this post. Made me not feel so alone in not finishing things on my ever growing to do list! As always, your girls are beautiful and I LOVE your blog. Inspires me so much and strengthens my faith that feels shaky at best at times!

Hope all is well with you!

    Blessings,
    Stacy

  5. Oh, so TRUE! Our medicine cabinet mocks me and the laundry room bursts into laughter every time I promise afresh that I am going to put the clothes away before we wear them again. But, the cuddles, the love and the snuggles I get to enjoy because I ignore those other lists – they make it all worthwhile!
