Random Bible Passage

Sometimes…I come across a portion of Scripture and think…How could I have missed that in the past?  Sometimes…it may be a really deep passage that truly speaks to a certain situation that I am facing…that is always amazing to me.  Sometimes…it may convict me regarding a certain action I’ve taken or a certain attitude I have developed.

Then…sometimes…it is just something that makes you go hmmmm…cue Arsenio Hall flashback…And don’t even pretend like you didn’t spend the early nineties staying up late to watch Arsenio…even when no one else was watching and they kept moving him later and later…Okay…so maybe, at that point, I was the only one still watching…Anywho…back to my original topic…which was…

Oh yes…peculiar Bible passages…like this one…

A young man was following along. All he had on was a bedsheet. Some of the men grabbed him but he got away, running off naked, leaving them holding the sheet.  – Mark 14:51-52 The Message

We are right in the middle of a truly intense scene…Jesus, in the garden of Gethsemane, has been betrayed and arrested…everyone is fleeing for their lives…and then…a man wrapped in a bedsheet…

There he is…running off into the sunset naked…the guards are left holding the sheet…now – back to Jesus.  I don’t know…just seemed a little peculiar to me.  Seriously…why was he in the middle of a garden wearing only his bedsheet and why is this scene not recounted in the other gospels?

Clearly…Mark knew that this was something that people needed to know.

  1. I wonder if he was important and Mark forgot to say why? Or maybe it is another of God’s jokes, and a little “hey, you’re not the only one who wanders into unknown situations and feels comlpletely naked” God has a way of doing that…lol
